DID YOU KNOW THAT CHIROPRACTIC CAN PROLONG THE LIFE OF YOUR SPINE?

When a vertebra in your spine becomes misaligned, it tends to become fixated in this position and does not flex, extend, and rotate as it normally should. This fixation causes the other vertebrae above and below to make up for this lost motion by moving beyond their normal limits of motion, thus stressing ligaments, discs, and other soft tissues. After time these over stressed vertebrae and their components begin to break down. A chiropractic adjustment can free up the “stuck” vertebra, allowing it to move properly, and in turn take the excess workload away from the vertebrae surrounding it. If you are having pain, stiffness, or reduced range of motion don’t wait to get it taken care of. Chiropractic is an inexpensive, safe, and highly effective means of treatment.

IF YOU EAT PROCESSED MEATS PLEASE READ BELOW.

Processed meats are often laden with nitrite or nitrate based preservatives. These preservatives are converted to highly carcinogenic (cancer causing) compounds called nitrosamines when heated, or when placed into highly acidic environments such as the stomach. Nitrosamines are a contributor to a wide array of cancers. For those that just can’t stay away from bacon or sliced deli meat, be sure to take a vitamin C supplement along with your meal. Vitamin C actually inhibits much of the formation of nitrosamines. It is still best to avoid these foods however. Best Wishes!

DID YOU KNOW THIS ABOUT CINNAMON?

The most commonly consumed form of cinnamon in the United States is of the Cassia variety, which at even seemingly modest levels in the diet is associated with liver toxicity due to a blood thinning compound named Coumarin. The form of cinnamon that we should instead be using is of the CEYLON variety, which has almost undetectable amounts of Coumarin. The CEYLON variety of cinnamon has anti-inflammatory properties, is a potent antioxidant, and may also enhance cognitive processing (increases brain activity). Ceylon cinnamon may also have the ability to combat type 2 diabetes, although further research is needed. In addition to all of this, it is also very interesting to know that cinnamon is one of the oldest spices known to humanity. Add it to your oatmeal, or drop a teaspoon in your water bottle, either way your body will thank you!

DO YOU SUFFER FROM FOOT AND ANKLE PAIN?

If you are suffering from foot and/or ankle pain, your chiropractor may be able to help. It is common for bones in the foot to become misaligned and stuck in an improper position, causing pain and inflammation. This is especially true after an injury to the foot such as that which occurs as the result of an ankle sprain. With an ankle sprain ligaments in the foot become stretched, and if left untreated they may  heal in a lax or stretched state, which results in future instability. Realigning the bones of the foot after a sprain decreases the ligamentous separation and encourages the ligaments to reform to their original length. There are other components to the treatment of an ankle injury, however a chiropractic realignment to the foot and ankle is an important treatment that is often overlooked by other health professionals.

A DELICIOUS WINTER TIME BEVERAGE TO BOOST YOUR HEALTH AND IMPROVE YOUR BREATHING!

Ginger is one of my favorite spices because it has anti-nausea, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. Ginger also reduces platelet aggregation, thus reducing the risk of blood clots. My preferred method for consuming ginger is in the tea form. To make ginger tea, it is best to use the fresh root, which is easily obtained from any produce section (Meijer’s has a constant supply). Skin about a thumb sized portion of the root and mince as finely as possible, then add to your preferred quantity of water depending on desired strength. For this amount I typically use approximately 16oz of water.  Boil for 10 minutes. I have noticed a drastic reduction in sinus inflammation after drinking this tea. It may take some quantity of this concoction to rival the effects of an over the counter NSAID, but it really does work, and it is a VERY HEALTHY beverage. You can eat ginger as well, but be sure to mix it with food, such as rice. THE EFFECT OF ACETOMINOPHEN ON YOUR BODY’S ANTIOXIDANT DEFENSE SYSTEM.

Acetaminophen is the preferred NSAID for many who wish to avoid the GI irritation associated with its counterparts. For this reason it is one of the most widely used OTC NSAIDS in the United States. The  label on every Acetaminophen bottle warns of the potential for liver damage. What these labels fail to inform is the detrimental effect that this drug has on your body’s levels of glutathione. Glutathione is considered the “MASTER ANTIOXIDANT”, as it protects our bodies from damage both inside of, and outside of our cells. Glutathione is also responsible for recycling other antioxidants such as Vitamin A,C, and E, so that they can continue to circulate through our bodies in their active, and health promoting forms. In short, if you wish to protect your liver and do not want to speed your body’s aging process, reconsider acetaminophen and seek a natural solution, such as curcumin.

EXPRESSING YOUR FULL HEALTH POTENTIAL THROUGH WHOLEFOOD SUPPLEMENTATION.

When it comes to eating healthy, many Americans are focused on what they can’t eat, and view fat loss as their main goal. Although excessive fat stores in the body are certainly unhealthy, a main component of proper eating is often disregarded by those wishing to maintain optimal health. Instead of taking the negative approach towards dieting by making mental lists of all the foods one should not consume, individuals should be looking at all of the wonderful and health promoting whole foods that they should be consuming, so that the foundations of their diet are solidly in place to support optimal health. With the typical American diet this can be challenging, and can seem complicated at times with all of the conflicting information available in regards to which diet constitutes the best approach.

Standard Process has been researching this best approach towards nutrition for the past 90 years.  Located on a spring fed organic farm in Wisconsin, Standard Process formulates and grows the nutrients which they place into their natural supplements through rigorous protocols laid out within their onsite laboratories, which are quality tested at every level of supplement production 1000 times each week. Instead of relying on synthetic ingredients which constitute the majority of dietary supplements available on the market, Standard Process produces a whole food supplement containing all of nature’s vital elements derived from plants and animal tissues.

From sinus congestion to digestive issues, Standard Process offers natural and highly effective solutions. For a strong nutritional foundation, I recommend to all of my patients the Standard Process General Health Pack. This formulation of nutrients fills the nutritional gaps that most of us have in our diets, and allows our bodies to express its full health potential. The health pack also contains very high quality fish oil capsules high in omega-3 fatty acids, which are crucial for brain health including cognition, and also for assisting in an appropriate inflammation response within our body. These supplements are only available through a licensed chiropractor or medical doctor. We proudly offer Standard Process supplements in our office. Not only do we recommend the General Health Pack to all of our patients, but to our staff as well. Commit to at least 3 months of consistently taking this product and I’m sure that its true value will be revealed to you. It’s a healthy habit that your body and family will appreciate for years to come.
